Polyoxypropylenetriamine, ~5000 MW
A three-armed, long-chain polyetheramine that adds crosslinking and green strength to spray polyurea B-sides.
T-5000 is a polyoxypropylenetriamine with a molecular weight around 5,000 g/mol: a triol-initiated polypropylene glycol whose three chain ends carry primary amine groups. It is sold as JEFFAMINE® T-5000 and equivalents, with an AHEW of about 952 g/eq.
Formulators blend T-5000 with D-2000 in polyurea B-sides. The third functional arm introduces branch points into the soft segment, improving green strength, tear resistance and solvent resistance without making the film brittle.
Like other polyetheramines, its primary amines react with isocyanate in seconds. Its long arms keep crosslinks widely spaced, so the network stays elastomeric. Adjusting the T-5000 to D-2000 ratio is one lever for tuning polyurea hardness and elongation.
Handle as a corrosive or irritating amine: gloves and eye protection, prompt washing of skin contact, and closed containers.
Branching from its three arms increases crosslinking in the soft segment, improving green strength, tear and chemical resistance while keeping elasticity.
Not one-for-one. The equivalent weights and functionality differ, so the mix ratio and properties change. Formulation changes should be made and tested by the manufacturer.
